Scientific American Magazine October 2016 issue feature opener
On the Trail of El Niño (written by Emily Becker), a feature story about how El Niño and La Niña will affect US weather, especially in California.
We decided to go with the Medieval and Renaissance map style, with a big sea monster and old school sailing ships. I had to attend an antique book fair earlier in the year as a part of research for another project, and that ended up becoming the inspiration. You never know how these things work!
